ABOUT:

Have you ever handed up an essay that you’ve worked really hard on and been especially proud of the final result? Ever wanted an excuse to write an essay about a topic of law you’re particularly passionate about? Has a lecturer ever critiqued an essay and all you’ve wanted is the right of reply? If so then Paper Presentation is the competition for you!

You can write an essay (or refine one you’ve already written) on any legal topic; for example your aspirations for law reform in a certain area or a cutting analysis of a recent major case. Not only can you show your work off to a larger audience, you get the opportunity to hone your presentation skills through an oral demonstration to a learned judge.

Why compete? Paper Presentation can help improve skills that are vital to you not only throughout your law degree but once you move on into the workplace, such as research, analysis and public speaking. Summarising a three to five thousand word essay in fifteen minutes is a handy skill in any industry. What a great addition to your resume and a chance to enjoy yourself in a less intimidating environment. Finally, the winner of the National Paper Presentation Championship will have their paper published in ALSA’s Academic Journal.
