Clerkship programs

Our summer and seasonal clerks are given access to real work, exposure to Australian and global clients (including client secondments) and a chance to participate in our outstanding professional development programs. We will involve you in research, client meetings and whatever work is happening in each of your practice group rotations. Many of our summer and seasonal clerks go on to join us as articled clerks and graduates.

We offer International Clerkships to selected clerks each year from Melbourne and Sydney. They will have the opportunity to spend two to four weeks in any Baker & McKenzie office, anywhere in the world, in the year following their clerkship.

Melbourne application information:

Preferred Year Level: Penultimate
Application Deadline: Monday 31^st March
Application Process: Your application should be submitted online via cvMail and include a brief covering letter, a curriculum vitae complete with work experience and extra curricular activities or interests and academic results.

Winter Program:

Number of Positions: 10-15
Duration (dates) if possible: 4 weeks in June/July (Dates to be determined after University exam timetable released)
Number of Rotations: Seasonal clerks are allocated to a specific practice group, however our clerks receive a range of work in different areas.

Summer Program:

Number of Positions: 10-15
Duration: 4 weeks in November/December (Dates to be determined after University exam timetable released)
Number of Rotations: Seasonal clerks are allocated to a specific practice group, but our clerks receive a range of work in different areas.

Sydney Summer Program:

Number of Positions:
Duration: 12 weeks
Number of Rotations: Summer clerks rotate between two practice groups over a 12 week period

Graduate programs

Most of our articled clerks in Melbourne  and graduates in Sydney have completed a Seasonal or Summer Clerkship with the Firm.  We also recruit applicants who have not done a Clerkship.

Melbourne articled clerks complete four rotations before they become members of a particular practice group and graduates in Sydney will complete three rotations. In addition, the firm offers junior associates the opportunity for a three month secondment to one of our Asia Pacific offices during their first two years of practice. This is a unique opportunity to experience the culture and legal work of another office, and develop contacts within the Baker & McKenzie network.
