What is our background?

Since we were founded in Sydney in 1833, Clayton Utz has changed and grown extensively – by anticipating changes in the legal industry, and responding to our clients' ever-evolving needs.
We achieved strong growth and success through the energetic vision of our leading partners, our in-depth industry expertise, and a commitment to working closely with our clients. The firm has expanded beyond Sydney to Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Canberra and Darwin. We now have over 1900 people including 210 partners.
Until 2000, the firm operated as a federation of partnerships. On 1 July 2000, the firm became an integrated national practice, committed to being “OneFirm” - unified and consistent in everything we do.

Community

As a leading law firm, Clayton Utz believes it has a professional obligation to assist individuals and organisations who might otherwise be left behind by the legal system. As a business, we embrace the principles of corporate social responsibility. We take these responsibilities seriously and provide opportunities for all our people to connect with their community. We do this through Community Connect, incorporating our Pro Bono legal work, our Community Involvement programs and the Clayton Utz Foundation.

Clayton Utz assists a wide range of community partners and clients each year. We provide regular legal advice, volunteers and financial support to a number of community organisations and charities. We also assist individuals who need one-off help with specific legal problems and regularly make one-off donations to charities.
